My Dad

My Dad he was so special, cheerful and so strong

He had a character like no other, and never was he wrong,

The time we spent together was wonderful and free

The hours we spent talking, just him and me.

We'd joke around together, laugh and carry on

He never did ignore me, right from dusk to dawn,

He'd tell me stories of days gone by, the best I ever heard

I'd hang on to every thing he said, every single word.

He'd walk me to Sunday School, every single time

Dressed up in his Sunday best, shiny as a dime,

The look of pride upon his face, as he held my hand,

He'd look at me and smile, the happiest in the land.

Ice skating was a part of life, he taught me early on

He'd push me all around the ice, and whoosh, he'd be gone,

I'd be sitting on the boards, watching him speed around

Giggling and laughing, making all those happy sounds.

He'd walk me down to the park, and push me on the swings

Take me on the teeter-totter, all those most fun things,

We'd race around the ball field, he'd scoop me up with glee

He'd get me down upon the grass, I'd try to wiggle free.

My Dad he was so wonderful, I miss him all the time

The life he gave me could surpass, all reason and all rhyme,

He left me way to early, but the good Lord had a plan

He needed my Dad for his work, the best man in the land.
